At Baselworld 2015 Rolex presented another, bigger rendition of the famous Day-Date. Sitting close by the 36 mm breadth model is the all new 40 mm case, the last which is fueled by the all-new bore 3255. Also, as earlier Day-Dates, it is only accessible in platinum or gold.
Soon though, Rolex would substitute the original model and make even greater improvements to its caliber, by introducing caliber 1055 featuring a new balance wheel that made the movement Swiss Office of Chronometer Control (C.O.S.C) certified.
During that time, the Day-Date became the preferred watch of many Heads of State, including Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th President Of The United States, from which it gets its nickname of the president’s watch.
Over the years, the Day-Day would become a cult watch within a brand which already boasts many icons in its collection. Between 1956 and 2000, Rolex released more than 20 different Day-Date models, featuring several calibers and even a quartz version, with calendars translated in more than 26 languages worldwide.
The new Day-Date 40 comes in either platinum ; Everose, yellow or white gold, the recent which all have a settled fluted bezel. Cases are completely cleaned and highlight a Twinlock screwed-down Rolex fluted caseback and twofold fixed crown, useful for 100 meters of water-resistance. The dial is ensured by a scratch-safe sapphire with a cyclops lens over the date, and a twofold hostile to intelligent covering. Isn’t it amazing?
